Re-charging the batteries!

Just back from 2 wonderful weeks on safari in South Africa. Absolutely wonderful scenery and the views of elephant , in particular, quite stunning. Hardly thought about fabric at all - only to bemoan the lack of shopping opportunities for african fabrics which I love working with.
Time away means I now have some looming deadlines and will have to wotk all the harder to catch up!

Catching up

Where does the time go? I seem to have wasted a number of days by just failing to get down to any serious work and trying to complete a number of UFOs. Apart from my challenges, I'm not allowing myself to start any new work until this quilts I've already started are complete!
So.... this week I have almost finished a traditional piece I started 3 years ago, the colours are wonderful and I have taken the plunge to machine quilt it. Its a very different process working on a quilt like this, the brain is less engaged once the design has been drawn out and so the physical work is quite theraputic, the brain able to wander as it will!
We had a wonderful day in London on Tuesday, went to the Natural History Museum to see the Wildlife Photographer of the year exhibition - wow, quite humbling, especially the spectacular images taken by the under 10's and the teenagers. The patience and the sheer time some of the photographers took to get just the right image is inspiring and I am determined to spend some time when we are next away just in one place waiting to see what happens!
We also went to The British Museum, again, and I spent most of my time in the "Warriors of the Plains" gallery looking at the patterning on the various artefacts and doing some sketches, which are at the top of this post, which i think may end up as some pieces of work later in the year
